Marvellous medicine

Our Sixth Form students were delighted to welcome a representative from University College London Hospital (UCLH) to the school in January.  As one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK, UCLH provides specialist medical services for patients from across London and the UK. Our visitor told Sixth Formers about the week-long work experience placements they provide at the trust and explained the application process. The placements are available to students interested in medical careers, along with a range of other placements linked to administration and human resources.

Sixth Formers Fathimath Rubeena Yoosuf and Sarah Shidane undertook a work placement at the hospital last year and reflect on their experience: “We were very privileged to be given the opportunity to shadow nurses and doctors in different clinics in the outpatients department. This gave us a very good insight into the wide range of specialisms that exist in medicine. We saw how teams work together to keep the clinics running smoothly to ensure patients are seen and treated as quickly as possible. This was most definitely the highlight of our academic year – thanks to everyone who helped make it happen”.
