A unique experience

Students recently took part in the Children’s Commissioner’s ‘Takeover Day’, a day designed to give young people the chance to experience the world of work and encourage them to take active involvement in their school community.

As part of our focus on developing students’ communication skills, confidence and independence, specially-selected membersof the School Council were able to shadow senior leaders in their day-to-day work, including attending meetings, observing lessons and contributing to decision-making.

Year 9 student Shahel Ahmed tells us about his experience: “I took part in Takeover Day and shadowed Mr Harrison.  All-in-all it was a fun, unique day, which comprised tours and meetings, and I gained a better understanding of Mr Harrison’s role at the school. It was an educational yet enjoyable experience and I would gladly take part again.’
